My interpretation: Everyone knows that Justice is blind. With her signature blindfold, scales, and sword, Justice reminds us that there is a balance to things. Simply because we think that something is not right or not fair does not make it so, and she reminds us that we must figuratively blind ourselves to make sure that we are seeing things from an objective point of view. Perhaps finding that objectivity is what you need to do in order to find the answers you seek.

Interpretation in the book: This fae wishes you to understand your power and your responsibility. If you are wondering why you are facing a situation, look to your past actions. If you can see how you brought yourself to this place, you can perhaps find a way to balance your karma. If you are facing a decision of how to behave in a situation, consider the future ramifications. For me, Justice has always been about pointing out when you need to be objective. The reason Justice is blind is so that she can be objective when facing a decision. I usually find her in spreads where a decision must be made and where it appears that there is bias toward one side or the other.

My interpretation: Our bright and sunny fae of The Sun holds an infant on her lap. Light and love are necessary in order to nurture anything – relationships, plants, animals, people – and The Sun reminds us of this. Her cheerful disposition reminds us that not everything is bad and that we must remember to look for the good in things.

I’ve had The Sun show up in spreads where everything else more or less pointed to a situation that was not as good as it could be – hence where I see that she reminds us that not everything is bad. But – her sunny disposition is obviously going to provide a happy answer when the rest of the cards show a happy situation!

My interpretation: The Empress sits cradling stalks of wheat in her arms, a symbol of Mother Earth’s great bounty. Her belly is swollen with child, indicating a new life that is taking form. Your answers may concern that which has already come to pass (the wheat which is already grown) or that which is to come (the child growing in her belly) – and she challenges you to figure out which are the answers you truly seek.

Interpretation in the book: So you find yourself faced with a clear, if challenging, answer. You are in a position to nurture something. I don’t know. Myself I have never found anything that indicates nurturing in any of my decks when looking at the Empress. She has always represented things finished (the wheat sheaves she cradles in this card) and things still coming (the child she carries).

My interpretation: The Star fae lounges lazily as she pours the water out of the jugs she holds in each hand. The water pours from these jugs eternally – kind of the way life flows eternally through the universe. While some water is merely poured back to the river from whence it came, some of the water is poured out onto the earth to allow the earth to replenish and spring forth with life. Look to yourself to see what you are wasting (talents) and what you are allowing to spring forth with life.

Interpretation in the book: Your answer, should you find yourself by The Star’s pool, should be very welcome. Whatever has been trying your spirit, whatever difficulties you’ve been facing, whatever sadness has torn your heart, the Star brings a time of serene quiet; a safe, cool place where you can be refreshed and find hope. To me it seems that she is giving nourishment and life-sustaining water to the earth with one hand, and allowing the water to just run back to the river with the other – more or less to me, symbolizing that talents are either being allowed to wither without the necessary things to develop them, or that talents are being nourished and allowed to flourish, though perhaps not the right ones.

My interpretation: Step right up and spin the Wheel of Fortune! Your fate is not in the hands of a wheel but it may seem like it is. Just because the wheel stops somewhere does not mean your life has to take that path. The wheel shows you what you could have – it is your decision as to whether you want to take that path or another. Do not feel as though the wheel has say over your life. It does not. You do.

Interpretation in the book: Your answer isn’t so much about what is happening to you now, but rather about how you face what is happening. See all challenges as opportunities. Look for spiritual lessons as you experience sadness. Remember to express gratitude through your joys. To me, the Wheel of Fortune does not turn until we decide to turn it ourselves. We turn the Wheel to see what we will find – the problem is, some people believe that what the Wheel shows them is what is set in stone and is what will happen. So one must always remind them that nothing is set in stone and that things can be changed.

My Interpretation: The World card features twin fae – reminding us that there is a duality and at least two sides to everything, including ourselves. While one side may be the only side the rest of the world sees, we are all two-sided at the very least. When one side seems to be lacking, check the other side – that duality is there for a reason.

Interpretation given in the book: If you find yourself in the rose garden, you may have either recently completed or soon will complete and important task. You are ready to enjoy success and receive the happy congratulations of others. These moments are, unfortunately, too infrequent and are always the results of some efforts on your part, so do not sweep past it in your hurry to look for your project. If you haven’t recently completed something, the desire for this feeling is directing you to find a challenge. You know, sometimes I wonder how the people who write the interpretations for the cards come by those interpretations. Some of the cards will say pretty much what the book says, other cards, say something completely different to me. Tarot is about intuition and how the reader sees the symbols – so I suppose the person writing the book is just writing what they see in the cards.

My interpretation: The Hermit may make you feel as if you are cut off from everyone else – but if you are, it is because it is your choice. When The Hermit appears, it is time to take stock in what you are doing and how you are doing it. If you are feeling as though you go through what you go through alone, maybe it is because you are somehow putting people off. The answers you seek will only come with soul searching – and change will only come if you put your mind and heart into it.

Interpretation in the book: The Hermit wants you to collect everything you think you know and spend some time alone with it. Compare it to the wisdom in your heart and to your current experiences. It is a challenge to hold on to what you believe while knowing that your understanding will constantly change. For me The Hermit usually shows up in spreads when I am feeling like I am the only person who is going through something or when I am feeling like I am the only one who is pulling their weight on a project at work. For this reason, I see the Hermit a bit differently than the book interpretation does.

Of course, as I have come to learn – reading Tarot is more about what the reader sees in the cards than it is about what the book says the cards mean.

My interpretation: With her eyes closed, The Priestess fae meditates on what life brings and what choices should be made. Perhaps it is time for you to do the same. Take some time to think over or meditate on your life and what choices you are facing now. It may well help you to make the right decisions.

Interpretation given in the book: When you find yourself in this part of the garden, your task is clear: you must identify what you value most in the world. The knowledge you seek exists in that value, regardless of any other circumstances. However that value finds expression — whether through a religious or spiritual belief system, through family, or through some other means — immerse yourself in it. Connect in every way possible. Create a sacred space like The Priestess has done, and stay there until you find perfect peace and serenity. My interpretation: Although she looks mean, Death is really nothing to be afraid of. Despite her connotations as a bad thing, she is in fact nothing more than a harbinger of a new beginning. Whether you are starting over in life, starting a new job, moving to a new place, or simply making the transition between this life and the next, there is nothing to fear. Death is here to help you with your new start or transition.

Interpretation given in the book: The answer you find in the garden of the fae of Death is that of acceptance and hope. It is time to accept the passing of something from your life. Pain, sadness, and a sense of loss are part of the experience. Death has always been a transitional card for me. When we die, we are transitioning to another existence – whether that be via reincarnation to another body or to the afterlife. Sometimes we make transitions in our lives as well. Just because Death appears, that does not mean that pain and sadness are mandatory – it just means there could be a change coming and it may or may not be one that induces pain and sadness.

My interpretation: With his impish grin and torn and patched clothing, The Fool knows that you get into to scrapes when you follow your dreams. He doesn’t let this stop him though, and neither should you. Time to start something new – and follow those dreams!

Interpretation given in the book: In the Fool’s garden, you are surrounded by enchanting choices that will vanish if you are distracted by analysis. This is not a time to make lists of pros and cons. The Fool, no matter what deck I read from, always represents a new beginning. There are other cards that also signify a new beginning, but The Fool is one that always shows me that. Following your dreams is another theme that The Fool always shows me.
