Pagan Blog Prompts: Location

  • Posted on December 19, 2009 at 5:16 pm

This is an older blog prompt from August of 2009, but I thought it was a good question:

If you were planning to attend a pagan ritual (public or private) and you realized that the ritual space was in a Christian church basement, would you have a problem with attending? Would you refuse to attend? Or would it make no difference to you?

This is actually a very good question. I know of some Wiccans and Pagans who would never even consider to hold their rituals in a space dedicated to a deity they do not worship. I also know of Wiccans and Pagans who have absolutely no problem going into a Christian church and practicing their faiths.

We actually have a Wiccan group here who did their practicing in a church basement. They held their meetings, rituals, etc in that church basement. The church knew that they were Wiccan, knew that they were practicing their faith and had no apparent problems with it. Of course, this could be due to the fact that frankly, they group was probably paying the church for the privilege of using their basement.

I would not have a problem if the ritual, meeting, etc was held in a church basement – for the simple reason that I believe that the Christian God is merely another facet of the deities I worship. While they do not ascribe to the belief in a Goddess, their God can be seen as a facet of the God and for that reason, I have no problem attending a ritual or meeting in a church basement.

Pagan Blog Prompts is currently on hiatus, however, there are plenty of older questions that you can answer if you haven’t already!

Divination

  • Posted on May 7, 2009 at 11:21 pm

Sunfire’s topic this week is Divination/Spiritual Guidance.

Personally as far as divination goes, I am drawn mostly to the Tarot. I’ve used a few other forms, usually involving the way candle wax drips down the side of a candle, the way a match bends when it burns, or how many letters are in a line in a book. But Tarot is the one I use the most, and the one I’m best at working with thus far.

For me, reading Tarot used to come very difficult. I was so caught up in reading the meanings of the cards as they were listed in the books that came with the decks or that I found online. However, after reading “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Tarot,” I discovered I was going about it all wrong. Once I started really looking at the cards, I realized that frankly, I could “see” things in the cards. I used that format to do a reading for a friend of mine, who also reads Tarot, and she informed me that the reading I had done was very insightful and very good. It was only a three card reading (my best one so far) but it got me started on truly reading the Tarot.

Blessed Beltane

Sunfire asks us this week what we have plans for on Beltane.

Well, unfortunately, I have to work on Beltane, so any normal rituals I may have done are pretty much out the window. For the most part, my day will be spent talking on the phone with customers and helping them out with their problems. :/

To be honest, I have no actually celebrated Beltane since starting my path. I’m always at work! LOL Seems like that’s one of the days I can’t seem to get away from work on. I’ve celebrated Samhain, Mabon, & Yule, but the rest always land on the wrong days of the week for some reason. :(

Hopefully next year I can actually have a ritual or at least properly celebrate Beltane instead of running around paying bills and working.
