Favorite Pagan Authors

  • Posted on May 17, 2009 at 10:25 pm

When going over my bookshelves, I noted that I have a rather eclectic, although small, collection of Wiccan/Witch/Pagan books. Most books are by either Scott Cunningham or Silver RavenWolf, although only the Scott Cunningham books have ever gotten me to read all the way through them. One of my Silver RavenWolf books is highlighted over the first 3-4 chapters, I need to start working with that book again. :) I’m still working on finishing the book from the first Weiser Book Club, and frankly, as I never did see any tweets from that again, and I don’t see @WeiserBooks tweeting anymore (I know someone else had taken over the Twitter account) so I’m wondering if the book club was disbanded. :(

In any case, in looking over my bookshelves it would appear that my favorite Pagan/Wiccan authors are Silver RavenWolf and Scott Cunningham. However, I also have book by Raymond Buckland and other authors. I am not in front of my bookshelves so I can’t tell you right now all the authors that appear there. :)

Plus there are authors like Maggie Shayne who are fiction writers, who happen to be Wiccan. I’ve loved Maggie’s books since before I ever found out she was a Wiccan. Nora Roberts may or may not be Wiccan/Pagan, but I’ll say this, she writes a really good magickal story if she isn’t. ;) I’m sure there are more authors who are Wiccan/Pagan out there, some of them perhaps do not share this fact with their readers, but I’m sure they are there.

So who are some of your favorite Wiccan/Pagan authors? These can be informative/non-fiction writers or fiction writers.

Gems and Stones

One of the things I love collecting are crystals and gems and stones. For some reason, I just love to have them around me all the time. My favorite is amethyst. I learned very quickly how true the descriptions of what amethyst does for you that Scott Cunningham listed in his “Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem, and Metal Magic” are. You see, when my mom was on hospice, I was her sole caregiver. A CNA came in for 45-90 minutes Monday-Friday to give her a bath (I just wasn’t very good with that whole thing LOL) and the nurses came in as well, but except for them, I was alone with Mom 22 out of 24 hours a day.

I had read that amethyst helped you sleep and helped drive away nightmares. I don’t have nightmares, but I do have insomnia, and so I put an amethyst under my pillow. I had not, however, paid attention to the portion of the description that said if you are stressed, to hold an amethyst in your non-dominant hand (left for righties, right for lefties) and allow the stress and negative energy to pour out of you and into the stone. Or so I thought. Imagine my surprise to find, several times, that I would wake up with my left hand shoved under my pillow, clutching that amethyst stone for all it’s worth! I seriously credit that little stone under my pillow for keeping me from actually breaking under the strain and stress during that 10 months that my mom was at home for her hospice care. I know that poor little stone must have absorbed a boat load of energy.

The strangest thing about the little stone is… when I was cleaning out the house after my mom passed away, I could not find the stone! It had disappeared. I never did see it again. Same with my 2nd amethyst. I’m on my 3rd amethyst now, and I know exactly where it is. :)

I also have quartz, rose quarts, green aventurine, tiger eye, sodalite, carnelian, and a few other stones. Some came in a feng shui set, and others came in a chakra stones set I purchased. They’re currently sitting in little velour bags, waiting for me to work with them. :) I shall have to start working with my stones soon.

Do you, my readers, have any stones you work with? If so, which ones, and do you have a favorite? Are there any that you simply “don’t get along” with?

I Miss My Cable

One of the things I miss most is my cable service. I don’t have cable anymore because I just can’t afford it. I really wish I could. One of the reasons I miss my cable is because channels like Discovery will sometimes show things that are Wiccan/Pagan related. That’s the reason that I am so wishing I was living in an area that had Charter cable. You see, not only would I be able to get my cable back, but I’d be able to get in on the action for Charter’s Free Gift Card Sweepstakes!

I thought this was pretty darned cool! Anytime a new OR existing customer orders something from Charter’s super easy to use website, they get entered for a chance to win $75 or $150 gift cards, depending on what bundles they choose. Plus, you even have the option to FollowCharter on Twitter! Following them gives access to super sweet deals, sweepstakes, and more. Hey, you never know, they might even tweet about planned maintenance that could take out your service for a little while.

I really wish Charter was here since I am not at all impressed with the cable company we have now. As far as I’m concerned our current cable company could use a little non-satellite competition! And if Charter was the ones giving it to them, I can guarantee Charter would win. Great sweepstakes – they’ve given away X-box 360 sets, a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid, and more. If Charter was here, I would so be there. Then I could watch my Pagan related and my other favorite shows. :)
